Acoustic Wall Panel Installation Instructions

  1. Handle panels with care as edges will not withstand high point loads like personnel carrying panels vertically with one hand supporting the bottom of the panel. Always wear clean white gloves when handling panels to keep the fabric clean.
    1. Take time to determine your panel layout on the wall.
  1. Attach impalement plates to the wall as per the following instructions:
    • Use 4 impalement plates per panel for 2’x2’, 2’x4’ and 4’x4’ panels.
    • Mark the location of the centre of each impalement plate on the wall 6” away from the edges of the panel (see Figure 1).
    • For drywall and concrete walls drill 1/4” diameter holes at the centre point of each impalement plate and insert a yellow anchor into each hole. Anchors are not required for wood walls.
    • Feed the #10 x 1 ½” screws (#8 for wood walls) fully through the impalement plates before screwing them to the wall. This reduces the risk of the plate spinning as it is fastened. Always wear cut resistant gloves when handling impalement plates as the screws can sometimes catch causing the plates to spin. Do not use screws with a diameter larger than #10 or 3/16” since these will almost always cause the plates to spin.
    • Attach the impalement plates to the yellow anchors being careful not to strip out the anchors (for wood walls screw directly into the wall). Orient the plates so that the teeth are horizontal to support the weight of the panel (see Figure 2).
    • Check that the impalement plates are fastened firmly to the wall.

4.  Lightly press the panel into position to create a “tooth impression” for Step 5. Ensure the panel is positioned accurately and the checkmarks on the back of the panels all point in the same direction when doing this. The impalement plates should match up with the scored sections on the back of the panel. 

5.  OPTIONAL: Apply clear 100% silicone to the impalement plate teeth as well as a 3/8” wide bead around the perimeter of the back of the panel as shown in Figure 3. The bead should be applied to the fiberglass along the edge of the fabric. Angle the tip of the caulking gun so that it presses the bead into the back of the panel. This prevents silicone from dripping/falling off as the panel is lifted into place. Do not apply silicone too close to the edge because it might squeeze out beyond the edges of the panel when it is pressed against the wall. Also apply silicone to the center of the panel in an “x” pattern (see Figure 3).

Note: If you want to minimize damage to the walls and the panels will not be subject to regular disturbances (ball impacts, people leaning against panels, etc.), it is acceptable to forgo the use of silicone as a secondary attachment method in residential applications. If panels are installed at a low elevation and children will be present, we recommend using silicone to prevent a panel from being pulled off the wall exposing sharp impalement plates.

6.  Put the panel into final position and press into place. Make sure the check marks on the back of the panels are in the same direction as they were in step 4. Press with a flat hand at the location of each impalement plate until the panel is tight against the wall. Be careful to avoid getting silicone on your gloves when moving the panel into place.

7.  IF USING SILICONE: Allow the silicone to cure for 24 hours without disturbance. If any dust or fiberglass gets on the fabric, clean it off using a vacuum with a clean horse hair duster brush attachment.
