Materials and Tools Needed:

  • Tack boards from My Acoustic Panels
  • Studs and fabric-covered buttons
  • #8 wood screws (length varies based on tack board thickness and wall construction)
  • Yellow anchors
  • Tape measure or laser measuring tool
  • Drills and bits
  • Hammer drill (for concrete/masonry walls)
  • Hammer
  • Button installation tool

Step 1: Preparing for Installation: Carefully unbox and handle your tack boards, especially the edges which are delicate. For larger boards over 4’x4’, enlist the help of a second person. Always wear clean white gloves to avoid soiling the fabric. Lay down floor protection to prevent damage during installation.

Step 2: Planning the Layout: Determine the layout of your tack boards on the wall. Take your time with this step to ensure optimal placement and alignment.

Step 3: Marking the Wall: With the help of another person, hold the tack board against the wall in its intended position. Use the holes in the board to mark where the screws will go, ensuring that all tack boards are oriented correctly, with check marks on the back pointing in the same direction.

Step 4: Preparing the Wall: Move the tack board aside and drill holes at the marked spots using a 1/4” diameter bit. Insert the yellow anchors and hammer them until flush with the wall surface.

Step 5: Attaching the Tack Board: Feed screws with studs through the holes in the tack board. Position yourself to align the screws with the wall anchors. If the wall is wood or has wood backing, position the board directly without anchors.

Step 6: Securing the Board: Carefully thread the screws into the anchors without catching the fabric. Tighten until the board is firmly against the wall but not overly tight to avoid crushing.

Step 7: Finishing Touches: Snap the fabric-covered buttons onto the studs for a polished look. If any dust or debris has settled on the fabric, gently vacuum it off using a clean horse hair duster brush.
